Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas popularly known by the name Ashanti was born on October 13, 1980 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a US singer songwriter. Ashanti was first discovered when she was a teenager and eventually signed to Murder Inc. Records in 2002. She was featured on The Fat Joe's What's Luv? song that same year. Both Fat Joe's What's Luv? With Foolish and The What's Luv at Number One She became the first woman to have two songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart top 10 from the United States. The song is called What's Luv! Let's celebrate this momentous occasion by celebrating it together. Ashanti Shequoiya, better known as Ashanti is a New Yorker born in Glen Cove on the 13th of October in 1980. Tina Douglas her mother is an instructor in dance and Ken-Kaide Thomas Douglas, her father is a singer from the past. The oldest of the three is the Kenashia Shia Douglas who is older sister. Douglas was named Ashanti Shia Douglas after the Ashanti Empire in Ghana, where women were powerful and influential. Douglas wanted Ashantis to follow this example. The mother of Ashanti's discovered her daughter's talents when she overheard her singing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti made an appearance as an actor for Spike Lee's Malcolm X (released in 1992) and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? Additionally, Ashanti was featured in some music videos like 8-Off Ghettogirl as well as K.R.S. Act One MC's You Don't Know. After being approached by several record labels including Bad Boy and Jive Ashanti had a difficult time gaining success as a vocalist. Amid this struggle, Ashanti performed in New York.
